Braces are applied to teeth for various reasons, including poorly aligned jaws, crooked, crowded and missing teeth, or a bad bite (also called malocclusion). When we think of braces we usually think of children, but now more then ever adults are wearing braces too. Children between the ages of 11 and 17 are typical candidates for needing to see an orthodontist because their facial structures are still developing. Adult braces may entail additional procedures because their faces have already fully developed.
